Notes

Kate and her boyfriend were on a camping trip and came across what looked like a meteor crater. Among the wreckage was a shiny silver band, a necklace. Like an idiot, Kate decided to try it on. The second the clasp closed, the "necklace", really a sophisticated alien weaponry system, plugged itself into her nervous system and started rewiring. Kate's boyfriend took her to the hospital, where she lay in a coma for several weeks. When she woke, the necklace was completely embedded in her neck. In fact, there were now strands of alien circuitry throughout her entire system and she also had metal showing around her temples (like a tiara), wrists and ankles.

Fortunately for Kate, she now had use of the device. Unfortunately for Kate, it had not been designed for human use and, while the automatic configuration did the best it could, there are some compatibility problems. She suffers from chronic headaches and has unpredictable reactions to any drug stronger than aspirin. Now, by unpredictable, I mean 20 points of side effect worth (The GM liked to make her run amuck). This would be less of a problem, if Kate didn't keep trying new drugs trying to find something that would help with the headaches. This did not amuse the other PCs.

The aliens are hunting her because they want their weapon back. Which would be okay, but they'd have to kill her to get it and she's not cool with that. ESCRO is an organization of evil (or at the least ruthless scientists). I forget what it stands for - I'm pretty sure the "RO" part was "Research Organization." They were hunting most of the party: Me, because they wanted to dissect the alien tech, another PC because he used to work for them and quit, and so on.
