The Ohio State University Columbus, OH
Graduate Research Assistant 1991-1997
- Magnetic Penetration Depth (advisor Prof. Thomas Lemberger)
- Constructed and refined a two coil experiment to determine the absolute value of the magnetic penetration depth from the complex conductivity of thin films (100Hz -100 KHz).
- Integrated computer with the experiment to collect data and control electrnoics.
- Determined the symmetry of the order parameter of LSCO through the temperature dependence of the penetration depth at low temperatures.
- Studied the frequency and temperature dependence of the complex conductivity of YBCO and BSCCO at the superconducting transition.
- Collaborated with several groups to measure samples and supply data.
- Film Fabrication (adivsor Prof. Thomas Lemberger)
- Optimized Co-evaporation system for the reproducible fabrication of pure and doped YBCO thin films.
- Fabricated YBCO thin films by Co-evaporation and characterized them by RBS, inductive TC, l(0) and l(T).
- Designed and constructed an apparatus for oxygen depletion of YBCO.
- Infrared Reflectance
- Measured the reflectance spectra of cobalt doped YBCO utilizing a Bomem FT-IR spectrometer.
- Maitained and aligned optics for Bomem FT-IR spectrometer.
- Analyzed data using both packaged and original, self-produced, software tools.
- Ferromagnetic Resonance (Advisor Prof. Philip Wigen)
- Measured the angular dependence of auto-oscillations in yttrium iron garnet (YIG)
using a ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) technique at microwave frequencies.
- Determined the magnetization of YIG using a magnetometer.
Avco Research Laboratory Everett, MA
Engineering Co-op Position Fall 1989
- Measured laser chirp in a prototype long pulsed CO2 laser.
- Analyzed heterodyne signal from the photo-mixing of the pulsed laser with a CO2 standard.
- Aligned optics and CO2 standard laser for the heterodyne chirp detection system.
