Trunk Light Kit
This is not the most elegant way to get light in your trunk, but who cares: its a trunk. This kit is pretty strait forward. Installation is only complicated by the fact that you need to mount the light into the sheet metal under the trunk lid. A self tapping screw is supplied, and the metal is pretty thin so its not too much of a problem. I really did not even make that much of a starter dimple with a hole punch to begin with.
Here is a picture of the finished install. The kit supplies you with a few wire ties that allow you to run the wiring to the battery. A really clean install would have been to run the wire up inside the trunk. I am not that anal about how my trunk looks.
I did have a problem getting the switch to work. The directions are not all that difficult to follow, but the diagram on how to tie the switch to the car is not very well done. I had originally tied the switch to lay parallel with the trunk lit when it was closed. This did not work well. After cutting the original tie wrap, I tied the second one around the wiring about 1/2" below the switch. Additionally, I tucked the slack of the wrap between the switch and the trunk. This had the effect of forcing the switch out a bit, so it would hang lower then parallel to the ground when the trunk closed. Voila! A working switch. So, it seems that you should not tie the wrap to the switch, but really to the wiring below the switch so the swich can hang down a bit.
