Subject: FANTASMA UPDATE Date: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 23:10:12 -0700 From: Laura Redish FANTASMA (PC): EXTENDED PLAY VERSION Jacinta Thigpen is the purest essence of the Southwest, a dusty Chicana in faded cowboy boots who edits a bilingual hip-hop e-zine and drives a Chevy pick-up. Jacinta is pronounced "Ha-SEEN-ta", before you all get weird pronunciations you can't get rid of stuck in your brains; she is more loud than violent, more skeptical than unfriendly, more earthy than rude, and more unimpressed than unsurprised. She doesn't like men or the government much, but dislikes neither enough to eject them from her life. She speaks English with a Spanish accent and Spanish with an English accent. Jacinta was with a Phoenix-based superhero group called the Rangers when she was a teenager, using the name Fantasma (Spanish for "ghost", if you're curious.) In her superhero manifestation she is surrounded by a blue nimbus, is insubstantial and cannot be damaged by physical attacks, can pull other people or objects out of phase, and can shoot out-of-phase energy blasts at people. These bolts don't do much damage, though they have cool visual effects, but if successful, they knock people briefly out of sync-- disrupting any mental or physical connections they'd had with anything, and making any attack they were in the process of fail. Jacinta can also fly. She's a very good shot and an excellent driver. (She can probably handle the flying motorcycles pretty darn well.) She's an HTML wizard, too. She is 28 years old, long and lean, with tan skin, dark eyes, and perpetually rumpled wavy black hair. She's good-looking but not markedly so. She respects Warp as a superhero, but he irritates her. She was expecting him to be less of a geek somehow. She calls him "Weege". When other people annoy her she will usually call them "zonzo" ("zonza", for women), hip-hop Spanish slang for, essentially, 'nimrod'. She's not attracted to anyone in Enigma right now. You can use her for minor bits, especially if you're familiar with how women like Jacinta talk, but please leave her reactions, decisions, background, and emotional responses to me.
